We were contacting last Monday night in the city and I saw this guy out of the corner of my eye right before we were about to go home. I just felt like we should talk to him, so we walked up to him and started talking. He is from Egypt and his father is muslim and his mother is christian. He was so nice and willing to listen! We had a great conversation and ended up setting up an appointment to meet on Wednesday. We couldn't call him though because his number is international, so we just said to meet at a certain place and time. So on Wednesday we started traveling there and ended up running into a giant protest at the train station. They weren't letting people out of the doors, so we had to take an ubahn to the next station and walk back to meet him. So that made us super late, but we were determined to go anyways! Just when we got here, he was about to start leaving. But we explained everything and then went to a little cafe to teach him. We had a short lesson and explained the Book of Mormon. He is going back to Egypt, so we got his contact information to pass on to somebody. It was just really cool because I feel like there were a lot of things that happened that could have made things go wrong, but we exercised our faith and did the best we could and things worked out!
I also kep thinking of the Pelin family a lot this week (the family from Ukraine). I decided that we should go by and check up on them to see if they want to learn more. We went to an internet cafe and wrote up a little letter and then translated it into Russian and printed it out because we didn't know how else to communicate with them! Then we missed our ubahn to get to their house, so we had to wait longer for the next one. While we were waiting, I noticed a woman who was smiling at us and so I sat next to her when we got on the ubahn. She was on the phone for a while, but when she FINALLY got off, I immediately started talking to her haha. We had a great conversation and she said she had heard of mormons before! She even asked for the church address and said she would come. I gave her a Book of Mormon and am praying that she will contact us or come to church. I feel like I am learning how to better recognize the promptings of the Spirit and I am so grateful for that! Once we got to the Pelin's, they didn't seem happy to see us and they shook their heads to say that no, they don't want to learn more. Rejection hasn't really bothered me much at all so far, but this time is just really hurt! But I think God had us go there so that we could meet the lady on the ubahn. It is so funny to see how things always work out for some reason in the end.
I am loving working with Sister Pettitt. We have some great ideas to get the ward more involved in the work and I'm excited to see what happens. I am learning so much from her and don't really feel like I am training much! It is also super great that she can speak French. It has helped us out in contacts and also got us an appointment with a potential investigator! We have quite a few potentials at the moment and I hope things go well with them this week.
I hope you have a good week and I love and miss you!
