We unfortunatley were not able to have many teaching appointments this week because of all the celebrations, but we did have some really great member appointments! The members are responding super well to the mission plans we are introducing and I am excited to hopefully work together more and really get the members involved. Even 92 year old Schwester Hön is on board and ready to do missionary work.
Tuesday was a rough day. We had a couple of teaching appointments scheduled, but every single one of them fell out. We had already traveled to them and everything and then the people said they couldn't meet with us! We had invited a member to come teach with us at one of these appointments. His name is Michael Manzke and he served a mission in Portugal and just got back a while ago. Since our appointment fell out, our back up plan was to go contacting on Neumarkt (big shopping center). It ended up being the best contacting experience I have ever had! Sister Pettitt and I learned SO much from him and we were just very grateful for his willingness to be a good sport about everything. He would just go right up to people and start a random conversation and it was incredibly effective. We ended up getting information from 3 people in just an hour. One of these people is just the nicest lady ever. She was walking in front of me, so I decided to compliment her on her coat and turns out she speaks french! She said she would have interest in learning more and we are in the process of finding a time that works for both of us to meet.
We got a referral last week from a past investigator and we were able to meet with him on Friday. He is Chinese and his English is pretty broken, but it all worked out! His name is Mr. Chen and he is studying philosophy here in Köln. He considers himself a Christian and wants to learn more about Mormons because of his studies, but I think he is also searching for truth himself. We hope that he will feel the Spirit as we keep meeting!
We had a great lesson with Patrick and Sarah this week. Sarah's baby is due pretty soon and she isn't feeling super great, so it is kind of hard to meet. But we taught them the third lesson and also added in some of the commandments. They basically bore there testimonies to us about keeping these commandments! They already followed them all. I just love this family. Patrick was able to come to church yesterday for the first time in a long time. He only got 3 hours of sleep the night before because their two kids are really sick, but he came anyways because he wanted to so badly! They both have so much faith and such a strong desire to do what is right.
I think I wrote about Dominique last week. She is the girl I talked to on a bus and she has already read the Book of Mormon. We had emailed her a week ago and didn't get a response, so we emailed her again yesterday. AND SHE REPLIED TODAY! She said she would love to meet with us and is very excited and I hugged sister pettitt so hard and nearly cried when I read that. It's just another thing to be grateful for today.
Since we couldn't go outside much today either, we went to the Kozma family's and helped their daughter paint her room. I am going to be an expert painter by the time I get home. It was fun being with their two daughters and doing some service. Sister Kozma made us lunch and she made something that they call Funk in Hungarian! It is spelled a little differently, but said the same! It basically is a scone and it was super good. I just love being with this family because you can literally feel the Spirit in their home.
We are meeting with Denis and Luise tonight. I am so excited to see them both! Denis called us yesterday and said he had something really great to tell us. Their faith is so strong and I have a feeling he is ready to come back!
I felt like this past week was really hard and I was just feeling frustrated, but now that I have written this email out I feel like it was a great week haha. There is always something good in every day!
