Serving in Köln. I really have come to love this city! We hiked to the top of the dome last pday and you could see so much of the city! I also have fallen in love with the Rhein. Apparently there is a cruise type thing that you can do and we are going to have to do that when we come back to visit.
A little girl in our ward who we teach english to. She reminds me a lot of Kennedy and Claire! She corrects our German and we work on her English. She is super sweet and gives great little hugs.
6 German meals that we were blessed with this week. I am super grateful that I have come to like Sauerkraut and Rotkohl because we are eating it a lot these days!
A shopping trip with a sister in our ward. She told me she needed to find a new outfit for sunday and we went with her to find it! She is quite a character. We ate cake and she bought us earrings but she didn't actually find an outfit until the next day when she went shopping with her son.
Oma Jo is now in an assisted living center type place!!! We are so happy for her, especially because she wont be alone for Christmas now. She lives 6 doors down from Sister Schöler and that is a blessing too! Sister Schöler said she will take good care of her. We have checked on Oma Jo a few times and she has been a little sad, but I think she will adjust well and be much happier. She got to come to the ward christmas party and church! She was pretty overwhelmed because everyone remembers her, but she doesn`t remember anyone:( I just stood next to her and told her everyone`s names!
A visit to a sweet older lady in the hospital. I had never been in a German hospital before, so that was interesting. She told us so many stories about her experiences with WW2. She was 11 and had to go to Poland. It is just amazing to listen to all of this history! She was also very happy that we visited and so were we.
Erik is getting baptized this week! We were teaching him the word of wisdom a few days ago and he was answering all our questions and it was going great. Then he asked us a super funny question. He wanted to make sure that we could still eat all types of pizza. We laughed so hard! He is a supear cute kid and we are so excited for him.
A dinner appointment with Mary Hu. I love her. She made us chinese food and we had to eat with chopsticks and I am not skilled in that department, but I got much better! She made us eat so much we thought we would die. She is so incredibly selfless and loving. She literally tried to give us ALL of her food. I love her faith and I love her willingness to learn and then to help other people.
The ward Christmas party! Our ward has made December the month of invitation. So everyone was challenged to bring people they don't know. And our ward members really did it! One family brought like 12 people and as soon as they entered the building, they made sure to show them the baptismal font. It was great. I got the chance to sit by a family from Ukraine with a very interesting story. The daughter needed a kidney transplant and that is not available there, so they had to come to Germany. The father actually donated his kidney to her. They don't speak German or English, so they are staying with a family in our ward who can speak Russian and translate for them. I really couldn't say much, but I played with their little kids and I could tell they were so happy to be there. We are going to drop off a book of mormon to them later this week!
I translated Sunday School and Sacrament meeting! It wasn't perfect, but I was pretty happy that I could at least do it.
I still have my Triple in German. Sister Wadsworth and I were on a train and then the train decided to not stop at our stop, so we had to get off ASAP. I accidentally left my scriptures on the seat and realized a few seconds after we had gotten off, so I literally had to RUN back on and run back off while Sister Wadsworth held the doors open. I am just grateful I remembered before it was too late!
3 referrals this week!!! One is the family from Ukraine and the other two are from Mormon.org. We went by the address of one of them, but he was at work. We talked to his mom and she said she would give her son our phone number. He actually called us first thing the next day..but we didn't answer and his number was kind of blocked, so we couldn't call back. We were so incredibly sad. I kind of said a little prayer in my head as we waited to get on a train that he would call us again, and then he called 5 minutes later! We have an appointment on Wednesday and we cannot wait to meet him.
A sleepover with the Bonn Sisters. Tomorrow is zone conference and we have to be there super early and it is far away, so the Bonn Sisters are sleeping over with us tonight! I am so excited to see Sister Parker again.
We saw a castle today in Solingen and it was beautiful.
Singing Chrismas songs while we washed windows for Sister Schumacher and the 20 snowlfakes Sister Wadsdworth and I have been making in the short amount of time we have before going to bed.
A man in our ward who actually invited the family from Ukraine to the party. He plays the organ in church and gave me a copy of the manual he wrote to learn the organ! He also printed out a ton of his scripture study notes for me because he is so nice. He is the only member in his family and it isn't easy, but he is just great.
Nice bus drivers. I think you would laugh if you could see Sister Wadsworth and me running for a good number of buses everyday. Thankfully, the bus drivers like us and will sometimes wait! Sometimes they require that we sing them a song or give them a piece of chocolate, but they wait nonetheless.
The new piano guys christmas song that Sister Nowak showed us last night. It is so beautiful and really brings the Spirit! We have been sharing a lot of spiritual thoughts about Christmas and it is really helping me understand the meaning of the holiday. I love being able to give out the He is the Gift pass along cards and simply talk about our Savior with so many people that I don't even know. His role in the Plan of Salvation and really in every aspect of our lives is really starting to sink in for me! I am so grateful for Him and His example and that I can be here helping people come closer to Him.
I love you and hope you have a good week!
