had a really great District Leader Council with the Frankfurt zone on
Tuesday. We talked about so many things and I think it's interesting
how much we have to discuss things to make a decision! The organization
of the church is so cool. We decided our zone needs to work on prayer.
We're really trying to make it a big focus. We are all working so hard
and aren't seeing the fruits we are hoping for, so we decided we need
to call on the lord more! There is a quote that really inspired us
about the importance of the FREQUENCY of our appeals to our Heavenly
Father. I had never thought about how important it is that we continue
to ask for help, not just say it once. We are planning to say a lot
more prayers on a daily basis!
We were also able to meet with Kai again! We taught him the plan of
salvation and it was such a solid lesson. We were able to use a ton of
great scriptures from the Book of Mormon that really touched him and
gave him more hope for life after death. I'm just excited to be able
to show him that families are forever so that he can feel happy and at
peace again! We also met with him later in the week and taught the
first lesson which went great as well. He said everything sounded good
to him and he just wants to read more in the Book of Mormon!
We had a way cool experience on Wednesday. We traveled to a far away
place in our area to meet with one of my favorite less active
families..but they weren't there. So we called and they didn't answer.
We waited for a couple of minutes and her son came home and said his
mom would probably be back soonish. So we decided to go dooring with
this extra time. I'm really used to dooring in apartment buildings and
that is a way different experience than dooring at an actual home, so
I was feeling really uncomfortable haha. Thankfully my companion loves
to door and we rang lots of doorbells and no one was home! But then we
rang a doorbell of a cute little house and a mom came out smiling
really big. And she told us she couldn't speak much German...but I
just asked her some simple questions about her beliefs and told her we
are sharing a video about Christ and that if she had internet, we
could show it to her in polish. She let us right in and we showed her
the because he lives video and she smiled the whole time, so we showed
her the because of him video too. And then she asked if she could show
them to her son too! We told her that we would love to bring her a
Book of Mormon in polish and made another appointment after we said a
prayer. Sister Godwin and I were just in awe after we left her house.
It just made me so grateful for the opportunity I have to be here! We
need to go dooring more often.
We are making awesome progress with the Turovski family! The mom loves
us now and we are convinced it is going to open doors to her children
too. We are teaching her English and she is learning like crazy. She
made us really good Ukrainian food and we taught her about
pronunciation. Later that night sister Godwin and I completely changed
our apartment. The living room is now the bedroom and the bedroom is
the living room. We may have gotten the couch stuck in the doorway for
a few minutes but we figured it out eventually!
Then I got to split with sister Young in Frankfurt! And we had the
busiest day ever on Thursday. And almost all of our appointments were
in restaurants...We met with Paola in mcdonalds. She's getting nervous
and doesn't feel ready to be baptized. She needs to make some progress
with the word of wisdom still, so we are trying to support her in
every way we can! I have no doubt that she will be baptized, it just
may take a bit longer. She even came to stake conference with us! Then
a member took us to a Japanese restaurant for lunch. And this was
quite a fancy place! She talked about missionary work with us the
entire time and I was so impressed! She has such a strong testimony
and is a huge example for her family. And she told us all about her
ponderizing scriptures! We taught the first lesson to a lady from
Greece on the steps of a cafe. She listened to the whole thing and I
think we did a pretty great job...but she isn't as interested as we
had hoped for. She really struggled with the idea of the priesthood.
She told us she is going to read the Book of Mormon, so maybe that
will help. We visited he street display for an hour on Thursday and it
was pretty awful haha. Some homeless Asian man came up to me and just
stared at me so I gave him a card and then he said some rude things
and wouldn't leave me alone...then he said some creepy things and
finally left! We just didn't see a ton of success and it would have
been nice to find some potentials! We visited Agnieszka as well. She's
doing great with the 12 step program and amazes me with her knowledge
of the gospels! She came to stake conference too:) sister young and I
made an awesome dinner and then we split back at the train station.
Friday was district meeting and our district leader through us all for
a loop. He had assigned us each a topic to simply study. And then we
got to the meeting and he grabbed two chairs and set up a role play.
He had us teach a topic we hadn't studied and then the people who
studied that topic gave comments after we taught about what we did
well and what we could improve on! I got to teach eternal marriage to
one of the assistants..it was a funny experience. He pretended to be
divorced three times and made it all complicated! It was a great
district meeting though.
We got most of our weekly planning in on Friday! It's a miracle. Then
we met with desy, our investigator from Indonesia. We kind of had to
set expectations all over again so that she understood why on earth we
were even meeting. She asks really good questions and keeps us on our
toes. We had an awesome member with us at the lesson which helped a
Saturday was also a crazy busy day! We did District Leader Council
with the Friedrichsdorf zone over Skype and it didn't work as well as
we had hoped! But we got all the points covered. We met with Agnieszka
again and then booked it to our next appointment with Schwester
Hickathier. She is the older paralyzed lady that we visit on
Saturdays. I think her health is getting worse because she can barely
hear us and asked us what time it was like 10 times..bless her heart.
But she loves our visits and needs the love!
All the Frankfurt missionaries met early on Saturday before the stake
conference meeting to do a quick choir practice. We sang the efy
medley in German and it turned out so good! The members loved it and
it really brought the spirit. Elder Leimer, a member of the 70, and
his wife talked to us that night. They talked about really knowing our
Heavenly Father and being a light for everyone around us. Sister
Leimer was going to join us for the day on Saturday as a joint teach
but she was sick:( hopefully it will work out another time! The
international sisters spent the night at our house and we've decided
they should just move in with us. It would be so fun!
The tech elders in Frankfurt are in a dritt(there are three of them)
soooo they can drive us all around since it's an uneven number! It's a
blessing. So they drove us in the giant van to Darmstadt for stake
conference. We had to sit in the overflow but it was so good! Later
that day we met with a cute girl named Eva. She is from a country that
starts with an s that I don't know and she is interested in the
gospel! She didn't have much time but we showed her the church and
introduced the Book of Mormon and we are really excited to meet again!
Then a member, sister Davidson, fed us dinner and gave us cute angel
statues. She lives outside of the city and it was so nice to actually
see the stars and some trees! Sister Godwin and I finished the night
with call-ins with all of the sisters. I love hearing all of their
crazy stories and miracle stories! The missionary work is really going
great in the Germany Frankfurt mission:)
I hope you love this long email. I decided to write it in detail so I
can use it in my journal too because I'm behind! I love you!
Love, Sister Funk
